Yes, artisanal toast is now a thing, and yes, it's delicious.

Maybe you've read about artisanal or gourmet toast making its debut in cafes around the country earlier this year. The trend is finally hitting Columbus, first with Alchemy Juice Bar & Café and now at Dan the Baker's. Daniel Riesenberger - aka Dan the Baker - is re-opening his Grandview retail space as the Toast Bar this Friday, Nov. 7. The retail portion is the front to his baking facility, down a back drive at 1028 Ridge St. It was formerly open as a small café serving bread, pastries, tea and espresso, but closed back in June.

Anyone familiar with Dan's breads will know they lend themselves easily to artisanal toast.

The Toast Bar will feature five daily toast specials (all made with Dan's organic bread, of course), alongside sandwiches, coffee and pastries. Toast toppings will include things like house-made butters, nut spreads and locally made jams. Customers can choose from the featured toasts or toast flights (true to the "bar" name). Dan will also make open-faced sandwiches, lots of pastries like danishes and croissants, sweets like cookies and shortbreads and serve coffee from One Line, Brioso and Intelligentsia.

The Toast Bar will be open Wednesdays through Sundays, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The bar and bakery is located in the Grandview Commerce Center.
