Last week the North Market announced the Greener Grocer is closing Dec. 31. Greener Grocer opened nearly six years ago in the Market, serving as an option with fresh produce and Ohio-made products like Snowville Creamery milk.
Greener Grocer owner Michael Jones is moving on to head up Good Food Enterprises, which he founded earlier this year. Good Food Enterprises is an organization seeking to partner and invest in businesses focused on a responsible food supplies. Most recently they partnered with Great River Farms to produce the Great River Market Bag, a multi-farm CSA available to central Ohio customers.
North Market is expected to announce the new tenant in early January; Executive Director Rick Harrison Wolfe said the location will be filled with a produce-driven merchant in the same footprint as Greener Grocer.
The announcement follows two recent developments at the North Market. In November the market announced the opening of Little Eater, a vegetable-based prepared food stall led by local Chef Cara Mangini. Meanwhile, Hot Chicken Takeover's winter home in the upstairs restaurant space of the market should open in the coming weeks.
