Including: Pride, The Receiver, Bully and more

It's Pride weekend, y'all! As you may have read in this week's cover story, there's more to Pride than a parade. Hopefully you're hitting up some of that other goodness (like life-size foosball, amirite?). As always, here's what I'd do this weekend if I could be everywhere all the time.

Best Coast and Bully at Newport Music Hall

I like Best Coast well enough, but Bully, well that's where it's at. I haven't listened to an EP as much as this Nashville four-piece's self-titled one in a long time. Even at five songs and about 12-minutes long, it's never gotten old. The group's debut LP, Feels Like, comes out next week and I'm told the release will be available on vinyl for tonight's show.

The Receiver with Playing to Vapors and Fingers at Ace of Cups

I'm a sucker for any kind of dreamy-atmospheric soundscape, and though I tend to prefer Casey Cooper's soundtrack work, which definitely rides that atmosphere a little longer and stronger, the duo's new album has been on constant rotation. NPR described the lead single, "Transit," as if aPink Floydballad were sung with aPeter Gabriel-like coo, but I'm more inclined to compare it to something between Blonde Redhead and Beach House.
