PromoWest Fest set to take place in Arena District this July

The city's summer concert season just received a significant boost with word of the inaugural PromoWest Fest, which is set to take place in the Arena District July 15-17.

The event, launched by PromoWest Productions, is scheduled to take place on three stages set up throughout McFerson Commons and North Bank Park, according to a press release, and will feature a mix of national and local talent. A full lineup announcement is expected in March.

PromoWest Fest is the latest outdoor concert venture for the Columbus-based promoter, which purchased the Bunbury and Buckle Up music festivals in 2014, adding to a portfolio that includes the Lifestyle Communities Pavilion and Newport Music Hall, along with three other music venues, including the Basement, A&R Music Bar and Stage AE, which is located in Pittsburgh.

"We were excited to expand into the Pittsburgh market with Stage AE and then again into the Cincinnati market with Bunbury and Buckle Up, but for three years I've really wanted to bring something big back home to Columbus," said Scott Stienecker, president and CEO of PromoWest Productions, in a press release accompanying the announcement.

Bunbury, which launched in 2012, runs over the course of three days in and around Sawyer Point and Yeatman's Cove parks in Downtown Cincinnati. In 2015, the first year PromoWest handled booking, Bunbury's headliners included the Black Keys, the Avett Brothers and Snoop Dogg, and the undercard featured the likes of Tame Impala, Father John Misty, Royal Blood and Kacey Musgraves.

PromoWest Fest enters a suddenly crowded local summer festival scene, joining ComFest, Independents' Day and the Fashion Meets Music Festival, as well as the nearby Nelsonville Music Festival, which takes place over the course of four days on the grounds of Hocking College beginning June 5 and this year features appearances from Randy Newman, Courtney Barnett, Mac DeMarco and Angel Olsen, among others.
