Some good news from the Ohio State University media department:

"More than 200 Ohio State and Louisiana State University leaders and fans will team up to conduct a public service project in New Orleans Sunday before cheering on their teams in the BCS Championship Game. OSU personnel and students, Ohio public officials and volunteers representing Louisiana State will restore two baseball fields at the Boys and Girls Club of New Orleans, which were devastated by Hurricane Katrina. OSU President E. Gordon Gee and LSU Chancellor Sean O’Keefe are also expected to visit the event.

Volunteers will rebuild the infields and pitcher’s mounds, assemble bleachers, pull weeds, apply baselines and put the fields back into working condition. In a related project on-site, children and others able to do less physical work will assemble fleece blankets for some of the 12,000 New Orleans residents still homeless."

Bringing baseball to children is always a worthwhile goal. For more on how the greatest game influenced me as a kid, click here. For more on the BCS National Championship game, click here.
