Chris DeVille shares his picks from the web.
Dayton music fan Tim Anderl used to run a fun, informative web zine called Bettawreckonize.com. The site petered out in the mid-oughts, but Anderl is back with a highly entertaining music and pop-culture blog called You Indie. The music coverage includes updates on Ohio bands and interviews with acts like Thunderbirds Are Now and Smoking Popes. But You Indie is just as notable for rounding up goofy pop-culture artifacts like "Fierce" T-shirts featuring the likeness of Project Runway's Christian Siriano and campaign buttons with Barack Obama sporting an emo hairdo. What's more, Anderl posts worthwhile content many times a day, making You Indie more than just some dude from Dayton's blog.
Hulu gets all the hype, but Fancast claims to offer even more free movies and TV shows from providers such as CBS, NBC, Fox and MTV. Sure enough, a quick string of searches proves the site offers helpings just as healthy as Hulu, if not more so. Furthermore, by the end of the year they plan to allow users to control their home DVR remotely from the Fancast site. The service also makes programming recommendations based on your previous surfing and offers a worthwhile TV blog at TheBiz.Fancast.com.
