Years behind the bar: 1
How did you get into bartending?
I used to just drink here and I hated my daytime job. I'm actually good friends with all the other bartenders. I pretty much begged for it and they finally gave me a job.
What do you like about bartending?
It beats working in an office building. It's just fun - I don't feel like I'm actually at work. My regulars are awesome, so it feels like I'm coming in to hang out with people.
What makes a good bartender?
I think personality is the biggest thing. I don't care how well you make a drink - if you have no personality, it's just not fun for anybody.
What do you like to drink?
Just about everything but tequila. I'm a huge Jameson fan. I'm on a vodka kick right now.
I love black sambuca, too. One of my regulars turned me on to it. I never even knew what it was until he asked for it.
Where do you like to go when you're not working?
When I actually venture out of here, I've been going to the Ravari Room a lot lately. They have the Dill Thrill shot. It's amazing - it's Absolut Peppar chilled with a pickle spear, and you drink hot sauce first. It's almost like eating a hamburger.
What is the crowd like here at Butter's?
In the daytime it's pretty much just all regulars, so everybody gets along. At nighttime, it's something different every night. Thursdays and Fridays we have a DJ. Saturday is our live music night, so that brings in different people depending on what we have.
We get a lot of people playing pool. We get a lot of restaurant workers from around here.
What would you be doing if you weren't bartending?
Oh man, military ... or artwork. I went to CCAD and I still do a lot of stuff on the side. I originally went into film and animation. Now, I do graphic design.
What do you like to do when you're not at work?
Hang out with friends. Go out to eat. Be lazy and watch TV.
If you could have a drink with any person, living or dead, who would it be?
Christopher Walken. I just think it would be hilarious.
