Red Brick Tap & Grill may have ditched its dive-y aesthetic of the past for a revamped sports pub, but the Merion Village stalwart is still offering dive-worthy deals at happy hour. A comfortable atmosphere, tasty nosh and a happy hour list that runs the gamut of boozy selections, Red Brick is the after-work spot in the South Side.

Food & drink specials: 4

At Red Brick Tap & Grill, happy hour runs a little later and quenches a wider variety of thirsts than other happy hours. From 3-8 p.m. all draft beer is half off, domestics go for $1.75, well drinks are $3 and the price of house chardonnay and cabernet is reduced by $2. For dine-in customers, appetizers are half-off as well, making a share-worthy portion of Red Brick's addictive chicken rolls (chicken stuffed with jalapenos and wrapped in bacon) a mere $5. Two friends and I were so into them, we shared a second order.

Atmosphere: 3

Red Brick underwent a major facelift last winter, turning the Merion Village dive into a casually modern sports pub. While the exterior keeps with the vintage aesthetic of the neighborhood, inside warm red walls with steel-plated accents and several large TVs give the space a pleasant (if not standard-sports-bar) feel. Even still, Red Brick comes off as "cleaned up" rather than "buttoned-up." The private patio in the back has great seating and offers a quiet nook in case a lively gameday crowd isn't your thing.

Overall: 3.5

Red Brick Tap & Grill is ideal for an after-work pint with a motley crew of co-workers. Happy hour starts early and runs until 8 p.m., allowing those of us who are constantly tardy to the party a chance to partake. Whether you're in the mood for some vino, a craft pint or prefer to go straight for the hard stuff, Red Brick offers a deal everyone can agree on. Add in some shareable snacks and an accommodating patio, and you've got the perfect people pleaser of a happy hour hangout.
