If you like the images in this week's cover story, you need to check out two art shows in Franklinton this weekend. There's the awesomely titled "It Puts the Lotion in the Basket" on Friday, which features the artwork of Nikos Fyodor Rutkowski, whose haunting masks and busts are featured in this week's cover story, along with creepy work by Stephen Janusz, Derek Stewart and Albert Gray. Janusz's sculptures of monsters and aliens magnificently blend together the realms of horror and sci-fi. On the 2-D side, Stewart's surreal drawings are inspired by comics, genre films and the supernatural. Grey's imagery (pictured) may seem mundane, but might be the most frightening of all.
And if you want even more macabre fun, Rehab Tavern is holding a Halloween party/art show Saturday night in "Hail to the King." More than 20 artists, including Katie Golonka who was also profiled in this week's cover story, present pieces inspired by Stephen King's books and movies. The night also has a costume contest (not restricted to Stephen King-themed costumes), and King's best movie adaptations playing all night long.
