Roundup of movies opening in Columbus this weekend.

"Seventh Son"

This fantasy epic of swords and magic was at one point set to star Jennifer Lawrence. Given J-Law's track record and the February release, it won't be nearly as good as our own beloved Seventh Son (the brewery).

"The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water"

The beloved and delightfully weird Nick cartoon makes a leap to the big screen with a live-action/computer animation mix. Also, Antonio Bandaras plays a pirate. So there's that.

Limited Screenings

The Wexner Center will bring the first showings of director Abderrahmane Sissako's highly acclaimed "Timbuktu" to Columbus. Fresh off an Oscar nomination, this tale of jihadist occupation screens Saturday at 7 p.m. and again Sunday at 12:30 p.m.

Alive Recommends

"The Song of the Sea"

For parents who prefer animated movies that don't bombard their kids' brains, this delightful new movie from the director of "The Secret of Kells" is like a lovely storybook come to life. Opens at the Gateway Film Center (3 stars)
