When the North Side Ramada Inn unexpectedly closed in February, it left one of the city’s longest-standing comics events in the lurch only a couple of months before it was scheduled to be held.

Though the Small Press + Alternative Comics Expo quickly found an alternate host in the Northland Performing Arts Center, the event had to be rescheduled for July 18-19. So far so good, all things considered, except, well, a bunch of SPACE exhibitors had already invested in travel costs or had plans otherwise tied to that specific weekend.

Rushing to the rescue is this weekend’s Extra SPACE, a day-long comics showcase scheduled for Saturday at Strongwater Food & Spirits. Admission to the event is free, so be sure to spend those savings on comics (in every format ranging from pocket-sized minis to full-length graphic novels), prints, posters, original art and assorted comics-related swag.
