In a 2014 interview, Ghost Shirt singer/songwriter Branden Barnett described the process of recording the band’s just-released long-player After the Spark as “an exercise in giving up control.”

“I flew in on a Thursday … and we went into Musicol [Recording] on Friday morning and banged out the record in two days,” said the Columbus expat and current Floridian, who will join the buoyant indie-pop crew for a release show at King Avenue 5 on Friday, June 5. “It’s raw, and it’s got some humanity and some vulnerability to it our previous records have not.”

The title is a big misleading however, as bounding, infectious songs like “New Cemetery” and “Silent Apartment” reveal a spark that still burnings bright.

Los Gravediggers and Kizzy Hall open the show.
