New in theaters:

"The Visit"

This dark thriller is, allegedly, a return to form for writer-director M. Night Shyamalan. If you saw "Lady in the Water," you know he needs to earn back our trust.

"Before We Go"

Actor Chris Evans ("Captain America") takes his first trip behind the camera in this romance about two strangers (played by Evans and Alice Eve) and their chance encounter.

"The Perfect Guy"

Sanaa Lathan stars as a "professional woman" who meets a too-good-to-be-true guy in the wake of her breakup. This is a thriller, so it turns out he is.

Also playing:

"The Transporter: Refueled"

A reboot of the "Transporter" series without Jason Statham, aka the most badass balding man since Bruce Willis? I object on principle.

"A Walk in the Woods"

Two old friends (Robert Redford and Nick Nolte) hike the Appalachian Trail in this release from the director of "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants." No, seriously.

Alive recommends:

"The Diary of a Teenage Girl"

A challenging but worthwhile telling of a teenage girl who loses her virginity with her mom's boyfriend, this one deserves to be seen before it leaves local theaters.

"The End of the Tour"

This movie about the five days a journalist spent with late author David Foster Wallace sidesteps biopic pitfalls and is anchored by stellar performances by Jason Segel and Jesse Eisenberg.

Limited screenings:

"Man with a Movie Camera"

The Wexner Center for the Arts screens the classic silent documentary on Monday, Sept. 14, with live accompaniment by Alloy Orchestra, whom Roger Ebert called "the best in the world at accompanying silent film."

"Fast Times at Ridgemont High"

Amy Heckerling's teen sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll classic gets a special showing at the Gateway Film Center at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14. Added bonus: It's a "happy hour" screening with $4 Ohio drafts.
