New in theaters for the weekend of April 1

New in theaters:

"I Saw the Light"

It's a light week for new releases in the wake of the latest superhero flick, but fans of actual country music should take note of this Hank Williams biopic starring the excellent Tom Hiddleston as the talented and troubled singer.

Also playing:

"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice"

The critics calling it the worst thing ever may be as wrong as the fanboys calling it the best. It's still a big letdown, and a narrative and logical mess. (2 stars)

Alive recommends:

"Embrace of the Serpent"

It looks like Doc Week is going to crowd this foreign language Oscar-nominee out of the theater after just a week, so I recommend you catch a Thursday showing if you can. This one calls for the big screen. (3 ½ stars)

I know it's been kicking around for a while now, but if you saw "Batman v Superman" last week, you may need a reminder that a comic-book movie can actually be fun. (3 ½ stars)
