Born and raised in Columbus, Angela Meleca graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in political science and journalism. After working more than 20 years as a journalist and in PR, Meleca decided to channel her professional experience toward her personnel passion - contemporary art. She founded the Angela Meleca Gallery in 2013 with a focus on identifying visual artists who are under-represented in the region, but whose work is an important contribution to the larger contemporary conversation. The gallery's mission is to serve as a platform in the community for such thought-provoking dialogue. Here are a few things she loves.

Downtown

We decided to shake things up a bit and move our family Downtown to live above my husband's architecture firm. We weren't sure how we'd like urban living, but said we'd try it for a year.Five years later, we can't imagine living anywhere else. Our favorite spot: hanging out on our rooftop deck overlooking the Statehouse and Downtown skyline.

St. Joseph Montessori School

Our children attended preschool at St. Joseph Montessori School in Italian Village when we still lived in Bexley. Right away, I fell in love with the school and the Montessori method of learning, so we decided to keep them there through the 8th grade. St. Joseph's is a hidden gem in our city.

Downtown Arts

We are fortunate to live in such a vibrant arts community Downtown. All within walking distance: BalletMet performances at the Ohio or Capital theatres, summer concerts at Columbus Commons, a myriad of events and activities at the Columbus Museum of Art and first rate exhibitions at CCAD's Beeler Gallery, the OSU Urban Arts Space and the Riffe Gallery. And so much more!

Athletic Club of Columbus

Under one roof we can work out, grab a bite to eat, go bowling or get a massage. They offer a ton of family events all year round; one of our favorites is the annual Father/Daughter Dance. And the ACC is where I met my husband, so it will always have a special place in my heart.

Shopping

My go-to shops for any kind of apparel are Rowe Boutique and Ladybird in the Short North. The neighboring shops make it easy for me to pop in before or after carpool. And if the kiddos are in tow, the bribe of Jeni's ice cream next door does the trick to give me a little more shopping time!

The Hills Market Downtown

I was so excited when Hills Market opened Downtown. Having a locally owned grocery so close to us is a great convenience. On Mondays I usually stop in on my way to pick up our daughter from her BalletMet class. And after our son's CCADSaturdaymorning art class, I grab a quick lunch to bring back to the gallery.
