This month's Gallery Hop happens May 7, but Alive hits the streets on May 5. In that spirit (5-5), here are previews of five exhibitions not to miss. Visit shortnorth.org for more information.
"In Our Nature" by Laura Sanders
Columbus-based painter Laura Sanders is noted for the near-photorealistic quality of her work, on full display in this, her first gallery exhibition in Columbus in several years. At first blush, the paintings could be fairly believed to be photographs, but a closer inspection reveals their true nature.
The CCAD graduate's detailed and fluid brush technique tackles the intersection of contemporary society and nature in these new works. "In my work, I feel like I'm joining landscape and figurative, human and the environment that sustains us," Sanders says in her artist's statement.
"In Our Nature" will be on exhibition through June 30.
Opening reception 5-8 p.m. Friday, May 6
