Bloodthirsty Virgins formed in 2015, but the band's members have played in numerous Columbus bands over the years, including Lollipop Factory, Jack Neat, The Black Swans and Perennial Rye. The Virgins specialize in songs of heartbreak, betrayal and redemption - rock 'n' roll filtered through a cinematic lens. The group plays this Saturday, Sept. 24 at Dick's Den. Counterfeit Madison will also perform. Here are a few things the bandmates love.

Dick's Den

Strong drinks, a cheap cover charge and great owners and staff who treat musicians really well. The jukebox is loaded with gems like TheloniousMonk and Sam & Dave. There is always a fantastic lineup of Columbus' finest playing everything from jazz to rock to bluegrass. Owners Aaron Synder and Tim Ackerman are doing it right!

Counterfeit Madison/Sharon Udoh

If the record industry was anything like it was 30 or 40 years ago, record companies would be pounding on Sharon's door and begging to put out her records. It's very rare to find an artist that puts her entire being into her performances. There is no artifice. We are excited to be playing with her at Dick's Den on Saturday!

Homemade Gear

Bloodthirsty Virgins have a love of unique, homemade gear. It always starts out of necessity - you can't afford it, so you build it. We use a Leslie speaker on guitar, repurposedfrom an old electronic organ; a transistor boost pedal built into a Wasabi Peas can; and a Spaghetti Westernfuzz pedal craftedfrom a 1968 schematic. Did we mention the Electric Magnetic Double-Neck Guitar?

Record Stores

We love the record storescene in Columbus. There's an excellent cluster of shops in the Clintonville/SoHud area: Lost Weekend, Used Kids, Elizabeth's and RPM. Downtown there's Spoonful Records, which also has free pinball. These shops really know their inventory and are fantastic to visit.

Musicol Recording Studio

Its funky cool vibe hasn't changed a wisp since our guitarist Scott Gorsuch used to work there pressing records in the early '80s. Musicol is very dear to our hearts. In fact, we are currentlypressing our first record there.
