Other new movie releases for the weekend of Christmas

New in theaters "Assassin's Creed"

The history of movie adaptations of video games is brutally bad. Early reports are that even a superb cast (Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons) can't save this.

"Sing"

This animated tale of a singing competition for animals seems to aim for the kind of low-hanging, family-friendly distraction you need, assuming you've already seen "Moana."

"Why Him?"

Bryan Cranston plays an overprotective dad coping with his daughter's new boyfriend (James Franco) in this comedy for people who have apparently forgotten about "Meet the Parents."

"Fences"

Denzel Washington directed and stars as a black garbage man living in 1950s Pittsburgh in this adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play. (opens Christmas Day)
