Young Americana songwriter poised for a breakout

Colter Wall is a 22-year-old songwriter from Saskatchewan, Canada who sounds like a 52-year-old from Central Texas. In May, Wall released his self-titled debut album, recorded in Nashville's RCA Studio A and produced by Dave Cobb, best known for his production work with Sturgill Simpson and Jason Isbell. If at first you think Wall's grizzled baritone is a gimmick, give the album a spin, and you'll see how well his own songwriting holds up next to a cover of Townes Van Zandt's “Snake Mountain Blues.” He'll play an opening set before Whitey Morgan and the 78s. (Don't miss it)
