Protesters prepare to get down
Vice President Mike Pence is scheduled to address a conservative group at the Renaissance Columbus Downtown Hotel on Friday, June 15, just as Columbus Pride kicks off. (No word if he'll be accompanied by Mother.)
To counter the appearance by the notoriously anti-LGBTQ Pence — he has shown support for the controversial practice of conversion therapy, and in a 2006 speech on the House floor he cautioned that same-sex marriage would ultimately lead to “societal collapse” — local protesters intend to greet the Veep with booming dance music, drag queens and plenty of rainbow-striped regalia.
The demonstration, billed as the “Welcome Mike Pence: Big LGBTQ Dance Party,” is set to take place beginning at 2 p.m. outside of the Renaissance, which is located at 50 N. Third St., appropriately adjacent to Gay Street. Confirmed performers include DJ Moxy and DJ ETL, as well as drag performers Virginia West, Sable Coat, Kiley Dash West and more.
