Singer and songwriter offers plainspoken, updated takes on classic cowboy narratives

All one has to do is look at the title of Wall's latest, Songs of the Plains, as well as its leadoff track, “Plain to See Plainsman,” to understand there's nothing flashy about the low-key Canadian folk singer and songwriter, who favors an unadorned (and yes) plainspoken approach. But while Wall's sound might harken to a past era, he applies his impressive baritone to updated takes on classic cowboy narratives, singing of outlaws riding shotgun in bullet-ridden Camaros rather than rustling cattle on horseback. (Safe bet)
