Annual charity punk-rock show serves as release party for local music comp 'Holiday Blood'

For a while now, Pat Dull of local outfit Betty Machete and the Angry Cougars has released the Columbus Blood compilation LP on Record Store Day. But this winter, Dull is putting a yuletide spin on the comp with Holiday Blood, a new edition he's releasing in conjunction with Figgy Fest, an annual punk-rock charity event that has raised more than $15,000 for the Mid-Ohio Foodbank in the last eight years.

Holiday Blood, billed as a “collection of insolent seasonal ditties,” boasts 16 tracks by local acts that have performed at Figgy Fest. A sampling: “Carol of the Bowels” by Placenta Claus & the Human Santapede, “Santa is for Simpletons” by Figgy & the Scrooges, “Xmas Bone” by Ebenezer Booze and “We are Motorsled” by (you guessed it) Motorsled. Proceeds from record sales will also go to Mid-Ohio Foodbank.

For collector junkies: Red and green vinyl editions of Holiday Blood were officially released on Nov. 23. (Record Store Day's Black Friday event), but the Figgy Fest edition was pressed on white vinyl and will be available only at Ace of Cups on Dec. 15. (Safe bet)
