CCAD begins birthday celebration with a look back at 140 years of student art exhibitions
CCAD opens its 2019 exhibition season with a new show that's part art exhibition and part history museum.
“Columbus College of Art & Design: 140 Years of Creative Excellence” kicks off a yearlong celebration of the school's century-plus history. Campus archivist Chloe Kie assembled the images, which includes catalogs, posters, flyers and other ephemera from student art exhibitions from throughout the school's history.
“We wanted to highlight the uniqueness of an art and design education,” CCAD President Dr. Melanie Corn said.
While the exhibition is not actually of student art through the years (something that will be featured as the year goes on), Corn said it is interesting to view “a shifting design aesthetic and the progression of how student shows have been promoted.”
“We have show posters from as far back as 1886 and as recent as 2016 [in the exhibition],” Kie said. “The pieces really show how the annual student exhibition has changed.”
The exhibition will continue through Jan. 25. Kie said that additional materials, including photos, stickers and T-shirts, will be displayed only during the reception.
