Musical improv comedy show pays tribute to the Vegas-style lounge show

Sarah Storer loves the Rat Pack era — the music, especially. But she also admits that a lot of the associated tone of the time hasn't aged well. So, since she puts on shows, Storer decided to make one that highlighted the best parts of the lounge act, pairing it with another of her favorite things: improv comedy.

With a cast that includes some of her Hashtag Comedy troupe-mates — Katie Drown, Shannon Poulsen, Sara Bucher Greer and Sheree Evans — plus selected special guests (“Like the old lounge shows,” Storer said), Storer will host Ladies Who Lounge Thursday, May 23, at Up Front at Shadowbox Live.

“I really love the old crooners, especially women,” Storer said. “I wanted to create an environment where we could have fun with the music but make it inclusive.”

Storer raved about the cast, each of whom has created a lounge singer character for the show. She also said the music (with accompaniment from Stefan Farrenkopf) will be as quality as the comedy.

“You don't have to be a great singer to be a good musical improviser, but in this case, they all can sing,” Storer said.

The audience will not only contribute song ideas, as per normal at an improv show, but are strongly encouraged to dress up like they would have to go to a classic lounge show.
