Three days of Watershed coming your way
Let’s be honest. If you’re reading this, you know about long-running Columbus power-pop legend Watershed. You also likely know that Columbus Watershed gigs are few and far between, mostly because singer/guitarist Colin Gawel’s co-frontman, singer/bassist Joe Oestreich, now lives out of state. Well, Oestreich returns to Central Ohio this weekend, and the band is making the most of this temporary homecoming.
On Friday, Aug. 9, Gawel and Oestreich will head to Natalie’s Coal-Fired Pizza for “A Soft Rock Evening with Colin & Joe of Watershed,” a sold-out show that will feature acoustic songs and stories from the longtime friends and Watershed founders. And there are stories — so many, in fact, that Oestreich compiled them in one of the best rock memoirs you’ll read: Hitless Wonder: A Life in Minor League Rock and Roll.
Saturday, Aug. 10, is the centerpiece of the Watershed weekend — a full-band rock show at Ace of Cups, with opener Earwig, a band that would be worth the $12 price of admission on its own. To cap off the rock trifecta, Little Rock Bar will host “Watershed & Friends” at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 11. Who exactly are the “friends”? Who knows? But a loose afternoon gig at this beloved Italian Village bar should be a good way for the band and fans to nurse a hangover and squeeze in just a bit more music before Monday comes calling.
