"The Dunes," part of Hulu's "Huluween Film Fest" is scored by Casey Cooper's CoastalDives
Yeah, it feels more like the Fourth of July than Oct. 31, but Halloween is technically coming, and Columbus native Jennifer Reeder, who just recently screened her debut feature-length film "Knives and Skin" at the Wex, has a new, super-creepy short film out called "The Dunes." It's part of Hulu's annual "Huluween Film Fest," with shorts from seven up-and-coming filmmakers; the one with the highest level of engagement on Hulu and Hulu’s YouTube channel will win a $50,000 prize, with the winner announced on Halloween.
Also, the score for "The Dunes" comes courtesy of CoastalDives, the solo project of Casey Cooper, best known for his work in local prog-pop duo The Receiver. Cooper is a frequent collaborator with Reeder, and his soundtrack here is appropriately eerie. CoastalDives is also releasing a split 7" with electronic artist Henry Blaeser, with a release show Oct. 11 at Brothers Drake.
