Hip-hop tag team Killer Mike and El-P released their fourth album unexpectedly yesterday

RTJ4, the new collaborative LP from hip-hop brothers-in-arms Killer Mike and El-P, sounds like it could have been recorded this week. Or a couple of years ago. Or in the mid-1990s. Or the '60s. (The point being, obviously, that the societal ills that the pair so ferociously expound upon are nothing new in this country.)

But, man, at this moment there's almost nobody else I'd rather hear rap about the fires currently engulfing our country. El-P is a blunt force, per usual, while Killer Mike burnishes his standing as one of the best living rappers, a man built like a bodyguard whose voice bounds through the beats with ballerina grace.

The pair released the album free yesterday, but is soliciting donations for the National Lawyers Guild Mass Defense Fund.
