The latest updates from the bar and restaurant scenes
The North Market announced a new merchant this week. Satori Ramen Bar plans to open this spring in the southwest space vacated last year by Katzinger’s Little Deli. Founded by Tokyo native Seigo Nishimura, Satori will serve a variety of ramen bowls featuring house-made bone and vegetarian broths. The menu will also feature small plates, such as edamame and pork belly steam buns, as well as rice-based entrees like nanban don. Nishimura is a graduate of the Tokyo Sushi Academy and worked at Cagen, a Michelin-starred Japanese restaurant in New York’s East Village.
The Daily Growler holds the grand opening of its Polaris location 5:30-9:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23. The growler-fill spot and bar is locatedin the upper-level food court of Polaris Fashion Place. The Daily Growler now has four locations, including Upper Arlington, Powell and the Brewery District.
The pizza collaboration Hot Mikey’s Takeover has been extended through Sunday, Feb. 24 — with a twist. This week only, the Nashville-style hot chicken pizza will get a topping of HCT’s mac ’n’ cheese. A portion of the proceeds will go towards the purchase of diapers for the Columbus Diaper Bank.
Girl Scout Cookies season is here, which means the return of Seventh Son Brewing’s cookie and beer flights, now through Monday, Feb. 25. Try four beers paired with Trefoils, Savannah Smiles, Do-si-dos and Samoas for $12; proceeds benefit the Girl Scouts of Ohio’s Heartland. (Seventh Son’s sister brewery, Antiques on High, will feature its own unique pairing flight, as well.)
Dublin’s Bridge Park continues to court Columbus restaurants and bars. Cameron Mitchell Restaurants’ The Pearl, which first opened in the Short North, and Rise Brands’ Downtown members-only bar, No Soliciting,are expected to add second locations in the Bridge Park development. CMR’s The Avenue Steak Tavern and Cap City Fine Diner and Bar already have second locations in the Crawford Hoying development, and Rise Brands’ 16-Bit Bar + Arcade and Pins Mechanical Co. are part of Bridge Park as well.
A trio of Central Ohio breweries claimed hardware in the 2019 Best of Craft Beer Awards, which took place last weekend. Combustion Brewery & Taproom’sBrasky ale took home gold in the Scotch Ale category. In the American-Style Brown Ale category, Land-Grant Brewing Co. took home silver for its Son of a Mudder brew. North High Brewing Co. took home silver for its specialty honey beer, Honey Wheat.
Last week, Middle West Spirits was awarded the inaugural Innovation Award at the American Craft Spirits Association’s (ACSA) 2019 American Craft Spirits Awards. In the whiskey category, Middle West won the award for its OYO Sherry Finished Bourbon, a three-grain bourbon whiskey first matured in American white oak barrels and finished in sherry casks.
ThisWeek Community News reports that General Tso’s Chinese restaurant will close Saturday, Feb. 23, after 25 years in operation.
