Complete with a party on Saturday, June 8
Sideswipe Brewing is hosting a small party to celebrate the can release of its latest New England IPA, dubbed Bro Haze Bro, on Saturday, June 8.
This isn't the first New England IPA that Sideswipe has produced, but it's the first to be canned. “We've done a couple of them,” said Craig O'Herron, owner of Sideswipe. “We started out playing around, and I feel like we've got them to where we like them. We released [Bro Haze Bro] on tap last year and it seemed to be a pretty big hit. This year we wanted to change it up and put it in cans.”
Four packs of 16-ounce cans of the hazy IPA will be on sale from 1 to 11 p.m. during the party on Saturday. While the event is mostly focused on the can release, a couple of versions of the beer will be offered on tap, too, including infusions with mango and grapefruit. Sideswipe will also be selling Bro Haze Bro tank tops and specialty 19-ounce glassware. Fetty's Street Food will be on site serving.
O'Herron said the beer's name came about partially as a joke and partially as a term for avid beer drinkers. “A lot of what we do is being silly and weird and that sort of inspired it,” O'Herron said. “Also, ‘haze bro' has become a term for people who wait in line for can releases.”
Bros lining up for the hazy beer can also hit up the relatively new expansion to Sideswipe's taproom. In February, O'Herron took over the adjoining unit to accommodate John Geiger's Arcade Super Awesome, which had recently closed in the upstairs of Yellow Brick Pizza in Olde Towne East.
O'Herron said the reaction to the arcade has been positive. “We get a lot of enthusiastic pinball players and a lot of new people trying out the games,” he said. “The extra space is nice, as well. We kind of lucked out with that. We'd had a couple of John's games before, and I've gotten to know him fairly well. I reached out when I heard about Yellow Brick. I said, ‘If you want to work together, I think I could get another unit.' He thought the idea was great, as well, and it kinda fell into place.”
