Doral Chenoweth, the longtime Columbus Dispatch food critic known as the “Grumpy Gourmet,” died Sunday night at age 98. Chenoweth’s work also ran in Columbus Alive. Read his obituary here.
A new craft-making/craft cocktail bar called Makers Social will open this winter at 461 W. Rich St in the River and Rich development in Franklinton. According to a press release, guests will be able to grab a drink from the bar and then “select a project from Makers’ specially curated menu of over 30 different DIY projects that range from experienced crafter to curious novice.” Behind the concept is Megan Pando, owner of Studio 614 in Clintonville.
Florida-based Ruth’s Chris Steak House will officially make its return to Columbus on Monday, Oct. 7, when a new location opens at 511 N. High St., across from the Greater Columbus Convention Center. Ruth’s Chris closed its last location in Central Ohio four years ago.
According to a report by Columbus Business First, the former Actual Brewing Co. taproom in Clintonville will be replaced by an upscale brewpub called SIP Local featuring craft beer from Somewhere in Particular Brewing. The new brewpub at 2808 N. High St. is located in the same shopping center as Lucky’s Market. Look for it to open next month.
Ben Kanavel was recently named executive chef at Clintonville’s The Crest Gastropub, a farm-to-table restaurant and bar that first opened in 2013. Kanavel was most recently the opening head chef at Comune. The Crest is part of A&R Creative Group, which also owns Alchemy, Trism, Ethyl & Tank and The Market Italian Village.
