Makers Social, founder Megan Pando’s new bar promising cocktails and DIY craft projects, celebrates its debut weekend starting Thursday, Jan. 30, at 461 W. Rich St. in Franklinton’s River & Rich development. Using an array of provided tools, customers will have the chance to create items like leather wallets, necklaces, dog leashes, coasters and bird feeders, all while sipping on adult beverages. A Venezuelan restaurant called The Porch is now open at 5808 Columbus Pike in Lewis Center, previously home to The Pizza Cabin. The restaurant specializes in traditional fare like mandocas (deep-fried cornmeal rings), empanadas, arepas and patacones, as well as sandwiches.

Woodys Wing House opened this week in Hilliard at 1840 Hilliard-Rome Rd. Woodys, which needs no apostrophe, serves a sports bar menu of chicken wings, tenders, pizzas, burgers and beer. This is the second Woodys in town, joining a sister restaurant at 161 E. Campus View Blvd. in Worthington.

The Cooking Channel’s “The Best Thing I Ever Ate,” a show in which celebrity chefs and experts talk about their favorite food discoveries, featured a Columbus bagel shop this week. The Lox Bagel Shop’s pastrami sandwich on an everything bagel was the big star. Appearing in the episode are chef Jonathon Sawyer, the chef/co-owner of SeeSaw who picked the sandwich, and chef Silas Caeton of The Lox. 

The Texas-based chain Bar Louie filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in federal court this week. Central Ohio has two Bar Louie locations in Polaris and the Arena District. According to news reports, the chain recently closed 38 stores, including four in Cincinnati and Dayton, but bankruptcy is not expected to affect the remaining locations.
