The latest updates from the bar and restaurant scenes

Ohio bars and restaurants are getting help restocking their liquor inventory as the state prepares to lift its dine-in ban, which went into effect nearly two months ago. This week, JobsOhio and the Ohio Department of Commerce’s Division of Liquor Control announced a one-time, $500 rebate to bars and restaurants to help defray the cost of restocking high-proof spirits. Permit holders must register to be eligible for rebate.

Several restaurants have announced plans to reopen their patios Friday, May 15, in response to Gov. Mike DeWine’s announcement last week. Other businesses, such as Seventh Son Brewing Co. and Parsons North Brewing Co. have decided it’s too soon to reopen, opting to continue carryout for the time being. Standard Hall in the Short North, Lindey’s in German Village, Kitchen Social in Polaris, Vaso in Dublin’s Bridge Park, High Bank Distilling Co. in Grandview and Nocterra Brewing Co. in Powell (to name a few) are all opening their outdoor spaces this weekend. Call ahead for information regarding safety guidelines.

Barrio, Cleveland’s build-your-own-taco joint, announced plans to expand into Columbus yesterday, setting the stage for a taco war against its rival Condado. Alive has more on that topic here. The pair of businesses, which are similar in concept, are still mired in a lawsuit in a U.S. District Court. Barrio will take over the Fifth by Northwest location of Winking Lizard Tavern at 1416 W. Fifth Ave., according to an announcement on Winking Lizard’s Facebook page.

Hot Chicken Takeover, which closed its doors six weeks ago citing safety reasons, is resuming carryout and curbside pickup on Monday, May 18, at its Clintonville location (4203 N. High St.). HCT is implementing social distancing measures, requiring that all HCT team members wear masks and pass temperature and wellness checks before each shift. Customers will not be required to wear face coverings.
