Led by author Will Haygood, students from local high schools discuss the difficult issues surrounding race.
In September, students from East High School and Big Walnut High School gathered in the library at East. The objective of the meeting was no easy task: discuss race relations in America. Columbus Monthly senior editor Chris Gaitten was there to observe the meeting between the students, one group from the largely black East High School and another from the predominantly white Big Walnut.
The students were led in discussion by writer and Columbus native Will Haygood. His recent book, "Tigerland," tells the story of the segregated East High School's baseball and basketball teams from 1968 to 1969. The teams are well remembered for winning Ohio championships in the same year.
