Multi-disciplinary fest bridges the worlds of music, literature, film, podcasts and more
Despite its name, the newborn Flyover Fest continues to make a case for Columbus as a destination city.
Scheduled to take place over the course of three days beginning on Thursday, May 11, Flyover is a multi-disciplinary fest, bridging the worlds of music, literature, film, podcasts and more. The event is the brainchild of local publisher/film producer Two Dollar Radio, and was planned in collaboration with Wild Goose Creative and the Wexner Center for the Arts. (Alive is the festival’s media partner.)
“We wanted to create an event that was inclusive of multiple arts and ideas, rather than rigidly defining it as a single arts festival, such as music,” said Two Dollar Radio Editorial Director Eric Obenauf in a press release. “Our hope is to expose people at a music concert to writers like Sarah Gerard or Hanif Willis-Abdurraqib, and vice versa.”
Events will take place at venues across the city, including the Wexner Center (film) and Spacebar and Rambling House (music). Wild Goose Creative, Used Kids Records and Rambling House will also host a daylong book fair on Saturday, May 13, featuring readings, kids programming, panel discussions and more.
Confirmed speakers include journalist Amber Hunt, who reported and hosted the podcast “Accused: The Unsolved Murder of Elizabeth Andes,” Columbus-born poet and sometimes Alive contributor Hanif Willis-Abdurraqib, Sarah Gerard, the author of “Binary Star” (Two Dollar Radio), a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize, and author Scott McClanahan, whose latest work, “The Sarah Book,” is due in June on Tyrant Books.
Also included in the initial lineup announcement are local rapper/author/podcaster/filmmaker Blueprint, who might be the living embodiment of the genre-blurring fest, Saintseneca singer and songwriter Zac Little and rapper Dominique LaRue, who just dropped her latest EP, Help Me, I’m Poor.
Ticket information and additional acts will be announced in the coming weeks.
