It appears the COVID-19 pandemic will halt a long-standing tradition locally with no American flags being available to decorate the grave sites of United States veterans buried in local cemeteries.
"As of May 5, the Veterans Service Commission has not received the flags for Memorial Day due to manufacturers being closed due to COVID-19," said President Gary Lucas. "As of this date, the will be no placing of flags for Memorial Day."
If the Veterans Service Commission receives notification that the flags will be delivered in time for Memorial Day, the agency will contact the appropriate organizations and individuals to have them placed at local cemeteries.
The COVID-19 pandemic has also forced the cancelation of the Memorial Day Parade in Cambridge.
In accordance with the guidelines announced by Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine, the Robert T. Secrest Memorial VFW Post 2901 has decided to cancel the 2020 Memorial Day Parade in downtown Cambridge.
