Wine: Holiday reds
When Tatjana Brown, co-owner of Meza wine shop, thinks of getting cozy during the winter, her mind goes straight to big, bold red wines. They pair well with hearty meals and the holidays, she said, plus they warm the spirit.
She suggests three favorites available in her Westerville shop.
Revelry Cabernet Sauvignon (2008)
Dark berries, vanilla and spice with a smooth, slightly chocolatey finish. "This cab, we think, really over-delivers on the price - it tastes like a $20 or $30 bottle of cab," Brown said. "It's crowd-pleasing; it's not overtly dry."

Pairs well with: Short ribs, steak or any other red meat
Kokomo Cuvee 4791 (2008)
A mostly merlot, cabernet and zinfandel red-grape blend is big, bold and fruit-forward. "This is [the winery's] take on sort of a Bordeaux-style red, but then they added that zinfandel to give a Sonoma and California side to it," Brown said.

Il Roverone Amarone della Valpolicella (2005)
Fig and raisin notes, with a bit of a chocolate taste and very smooth tannins. "Amarone is a special type of Italian red - the grapes are actually laid out on straw mats and raisined," Brown said. "It gives it a nice flavor."
