Daily Distraction: Beavis and Butthead set to return to television
Yes, 2020 has been and continues to be a brutal year for most, but there could be worse silver linings than learning that "Beavis and Butthead" could soon be returning to the air. As reported by the New York Times, creator Mike Judge recently inked a deal to bring the dopey cartoon duo, who were a staple of MTV in the 1990s, to new home Comedy Central. A premiere date has not yet been announced.
In a press release, Comedy Central said the rebooted series will find the characters “entering a whole new Gen Z world” and dealing with “meta-themes relatable to both new and old fans — Gen X parents and their Gen Z kids.” So expect references to K-pop and TikTok, as well as music video critiques of artists like Billy Eilish rather than '90s staples like Alice in Chains (see below).
Judge's deal with Comedy Central also includes potential spinoffs, which could be a boon to the network, considering the MTV series "Daria" was spun off from "Beavis and Butthead" and eclipsed even its admirable heights. (Don't @ me.)
