Daily Distraction: Jerry David DeCicca debuts 'I See Horizons'
“My whole life, I’ve struggled with anxiety and depression," Jerry David DeCicca writes in a press release announcing his new LP, The Unlikely Optimist And His Domestic Adventures, due in October. "But through music, people who love me, and meaningful work, I’ve gathered enough light to keep getting out of bed."
A number of these gathered lights appear on DeCicca's forthcoming album, for which the Texas-based Columbus expat recruited an array of favored contributors, including Scrawl’s Jovan Karcic, former Black Swans bandmate Canaan Faulkner and Augie Meyers of the Sir Douglas Quintet, among others.
On opening track "I See Horizons," released today, DeCicca sets himself "on the edge of everything," casually delivering his dusty words atop a backdrop of rich saxophone and Western-tinged electric guitar that wouldn't sound out of place on a Tarantino score. Immerse yourself in the patient, lovingly rumpled new tune below.
