"One More Second," the first song off of Serpentine Prison, the forthcoming solo album from National singer Matt Berninger, isn't a radical departure, having much in common with the Brooklyn band's impeccably crafted, moody indie rock. But that's not necessarily a bad thing.

“I wrote 'One More Second' with Matt Sheehy with the intention for it to be a kind of answer to Dolly Parton’s 'I Will Always Love You,' or sort of the other side of that conversation,” Berninger said in a press release. “I just wanted to write one of those classic, simple, desperate love songs that sound great in your car.”

I can't attest to the car aspect, but the song certainly sounded lovely enough while looping it in my basement office this afternoon. Give it a spin below.
