Columbus Arts Festival: Big Local Art Tent

Kristen Schmidt, Columbus Alive

Local art is getting really big at this year's Columbus Arts Festival.

Artists, demonstrations, performances and make-and-take projects - representing more than a dozen arts collectives and organizations - will fill the Big Local Art Tent.

"The GCAC has done a tremendous amount of work over the last three four years to accommodate local artists and local arts groups that were maybe underrepresented in other years," said Adam Brouillette, a leader in the arts community and an arts festival juror this year.

A grant from Annie's Fund, which supports artists and arts organizations, is paying for the tent itself.

The studios at 400 West Rich - just across the Main Street bridge from the Scioto Mile - will also be open all weekend, and festival organizers are encouraging visitors to check out what's going on in Franklinton.

"Ideally, I'd love to see hundreds of artists in Columbus represented in a grand scale at the festival, but we understand there's a process of trust that needs to go on," Brouillette said. "We need to learn how they work and they need to learn how we work."
