Daily Distraction: Listen to the Dolly Parton/Jeni's ice cream before you eat it
Listen to these flavorful songs before the April 8 release of Strawberry Pretzel Pie, the new ice cream from Dolly Parton and Jeni's
Yesterday, countless social media posts giddily spread the news that Dolly Parton has teamed up with hometown favorite Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams for a new, limited-edition flavor, Strawberry Pretzel Pie. Jeni's described it this way:
"Strawberry Pretzel Pie is our ode to the Queen of Country and a throwback to the triple decker pie from the potlucks of our youths. Layers of salty pretzel streusel, subtly sweet and effortlessly tangy cream cheese ice cream, and lipstick red strawberry sauce."
The new release will benefit Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, a book gifting program that provides free books to young children. Jeni's only made 10,000 pints of the new flavor, and it's not available at scoop shops until April 8 (limit of two pints per purchase, and not eligible for delivery or pickup).
While you salivate and wait for that release date (no charge for that lil' poem, mate), here's a selection of songs all based on the ice cream's ingredients, which, when listened to in the same sitting, musically replicates the new Dolly/Jeni's mashup but with no sugar or lactose and zero calories, resulting in a less-filling, entirely unsatisfying version of Strawberry Pretzel Pie. Enjoy!
For the optimal Dolly Parton experience, it doesn't get better than "Jolene":
For strawberry, it's the obvious choice, but it's also the right choice:
For pretzels, a song by a band that seems to be more beloved with each passing year:
Given these previous selections, you might assume the cream cheese choice would be "Spoonful," the Willie Dixon song reinterpreted by Cream on the band's 1966 debut album, Fresh Cream. But we've heard from Clapton enough over the years, so we'll go with this instead:
