Food News: As if you needed another reason to drink in Athens, Ohio Brew Week kicks off Friday
Ohio Brew Week kicks off this Friday in Athens, Ohio, and runs through July 18. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the event. The week includes a massive list of Ohio beers on tap around town, as well as beer tastings, speakers, barbecue, a homebrew competition and a street party to finish things off.
Highline Coffee Co.announced it will open in August at 691 High St. in Olde Worthington. The business previously existed as a mobile cart called Traveling Bean Coffee. Highline owners said they plan to serve One Line Coffee beans; the cart will be retained for future mobile and catering operations.
DareDevil Dogs is building a food truck and has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund it. The restaurant owners cite their limited space at 1437 N. High St. (previously home to Commonwealth Sandwich Bar) as the reason for the crowdfunding efforts. The campaign runs through Friday, July 24. Backer rewards include stickers, T-shirts, hot dogs and party invites.
The North Market Ohio Wine Festival is this weekend, July 10-12. Guests get to sample from over 20 Ohio wineries and are given vouchers for food from the market and a souvenir glass. Special VIP packages are being sold for Friday night; these include early admission, magazine subscriptions and gift bags.
The group behind Novak's, The Filling Station and Yogi's Bar & Grill announced they will open a new concept in the former Surly Girl Saloon space this fall.
JimmyLuka's, a new deli and bar at 701 Parsons Ave., is slated to open in August just down the road from the new Crest Gastropub location. The Crest is also set to open soon, with calls for interviews being put out over social media.
