Food News: 6-1-Pho set to open, Red Velvet adds Bao Bros

Red Velvet Cafe downtown announced that Bao Bros will serve traditional Taiwanese steamed Gua Bao sandwiches out of their restaurant every Friday evening from 6-10 p.m.

Fast casual Vietnamese restaurant 6-1-Pho will hold their grand opening next Monday, Aug. 3 from 4:30-9:30 p.m. Located at 4386 N. High St. in Clintonville, the eatery will serve made-to-order pho and rice bowls, noodle salads and banh mi sandwiches.

The Ohio State Fair kicked off Wednesday, July 29, and runs through Aug. 9. It includes traditional fair foods like corn dogs, elephant ears and deep-fried everything, as well as international eats and Ohio-based goods. The Taste of Ohio Cafe features meats, cheeses, wines and beers from Ohio vendors. Columbus-based restaurants like Schmidt's Sausage Haus are represented as well.

Chef Bill Glover of Gallerie Bar & Bistro was invited to cook at the prestigious James Beard House in New York City. Glover will be creating a six-course dinner highlighting Ohio ingredients on Friday, Sept. 11. He's the first Columbus chef to be invited to the Beard House.

A number of changes are in the works for de-NOVO bistro & bar. This week they announced the addition of executive chef John Kang. The restaurant is also moving across High St. to be part of the new Highpoint development on the Columbus Commons. FAB Dining Group, owner of de-NOVO, Manifesto and Oliver's, also hinted they'll restore the current de-NOVO space into a soda fountain, bar and diner.

Whole Foods Market announced they are opening their Easton location Sept. 2. The 45,000-square-foot store is located in the Easton Gateway district.

The Food Fort is hosting their annual Food Truck Fest on Saturday, Aug. 1 from 3-9 pm at 2400 Corporate Exchange Dr. The event features live music, beer from local breweries and family events. Nearly 20 food trucks will be on hand, such as Explorers Club, Burrito Bus, Kenny's Meat Wagon, Dos Hermanos, Queen's Table and more.

Wine on High in the Short North has temporarily closed for renovations. They plan to complete the work this fall; the renovations include moving their wine bar to the main floor and adding cocktails and snacks.

Lulu's Sweet Shop held its grand opening last weekend in Uptown Westerville at 14 W. College St.

The 24-hour Short North Coffee House closed last week and announced they are moving to another as-yet-undisclosed location nearby in Short North.
