Daily Distraction: Watch this NASA probe touch the sun
The Parker Solar Probe entered the sun's solar atmosphere this month
Back in 2018, NASA launched the Parker Solar Probe with the intention of sending it closer to the sun than any other spacecraft has ever traveled. Three years later, NASA announced that the probe has finally "touched" the sun.
"Touch" is in quotes there because, well, it's complicated. The sun's surface isn't like the earth's surface, of course. It's made of superheated solar material held in place by the sun's gravity. The video gets into more detail below, but basically, the Parker Solar Probe entered the solar atmosphere known as the corona (no relation to the virus ravaging the world; don't blame the sun).
Anyway, watch the video. We touched the sun.
