Staff Pick: Yacht at The Basement
YACHT might be the only band that offers a list of suggested mantras on its website. The cheerful electro-pop duo bills itself as both a musical act and a "belief system." Whether or not you take the group's opinions on self-empowerment (it's important), extraterrestrial beings (they're out there) and "Free Wi-Fi" signs (they're a political statement, not advertisements of services) seriously, know that YACHT is serious about its music.
Example: During one 2010 performance at Austin's South by Southwest festival, YACHT's Jona Bechtolt was dancing around wildly when his pants split near the knee. It didn't faze him when the hole began to creep up toward his crotch. He just kept dancing and churning out music that made everyone else wants to dance.
Bechtolt and his partner in ideology, Claire L. Evans, will have everyone dancing to their mantra-filled songs Sunday night at The Basement.
