Ohio State’s second annual Hip-Hop Literacies Conference will dive into the academic side of rap, but that doesn’t mean it ain’t fun. Consider: Trailblazing female rapper MC Lyte will deliver a keynote address next Friday, but she’ll also perform a medley of hits. Other featured speakers at the conference, which focuses on black culture’s worldwide influence: keynote addresses from Dr. Mark Anthony Neal (Duke), Dr. Marcyliena Morgan (Harvard) and Dr. Ronald L. Jackson II (Illinois). Plus, acclaimed Columbus producer J. Rawls will host a seminar called “DJing for the People” on Wednesday night, and whether he’ll be talking, demonstrating or hands-on instructing, that sounds super dope.
