Staff Pick: Mouth of the Architect at Ace of Cups

Chris DeVille, Columbus Alive

No genre subdivides quite like metal. There's an entire school of rock devoted to bludgeoning gorilla war cries over warm, lumbering shoegaze dirges, and Mouth of the Architect is at the forefront. It's like Baroness slowed to Isis speeds.

The band is mighty, but also mighty approachable; although they're road-testing lots of new material from an upcoming album, they built much of their current setlist from fan requests on Facebook. The Dayton powerhouse plays Ace of Cups this Friday with fellow heavyweights Mockingbird, By Way of Sunstorm and Before the Eyewall.
