Staff Pick: Dope Body & 200 Years at Double Happiness

Here’s a Double Happiness double bill of elephantine proportions: Baltimore’s foremost noise punks matched with a bi-coastal art-school psych-folk power couple.

Dope Body, whose “Natural History” just dropped via Drag City, lumbers around like Swans if fronted by Paul Westerberg after exposure to gamma rays. Theirs is surly, airy, mechanical animal music with pop chops to spare.

The partnership between Ben Chasny (Six Organs of Admittance) and Elisa Ambrogio (Magik Markers), 200 Years, shares a record label with Dope Body but exists at the other end of the volume spectrum, tending toward spare guitar ballads with melodies like moonbeams.
