Freshkills at Double Happiness

New York combo Freshkills plays post-punk with the reckless abandon of garage-bound trash rockers, resulting in a playful yet foreboding clatter they describe as “Fugazi without the moral compass” and “Nick Cave without the Elvis fixation.”

Their recent LP, “Raise Up the Sheets,” is a bloody good time and also something like a pop turn, though certainly a confounding one. “Positives Vibes” in particular offers a unique take on the tried-and-true trick of matching exultant sounds with dreary lyrics: “These positive vibes are killing me/ I don’t want to have fun, I’ve had fun/ I want to lie in the dark all day/ With you, with you.”

Despite the fervent anti-fun stance, the band’s gig Saturday at Double Happiness is bound to be a blast.
