Concert preview: Sewers name perfectly captures its grime-caked musical output

Andy Downing, Columbus Alive

Sewers name perfectly captures its grime-caked approach, and songs like "Human Spray" and the battered, brawling "Ugly Party" are as dank, muddy and unforgiving as those subterranean environs.

At times, the Aussie crew sounds like it's falling spectacularly to pieces (the title of "Drive the Nail" might hint at construction, but the sonic landscape suggests a devastated wasteland), while other tunes, like the sneering "Sinkhole," suggest some new, mutated life form lurching noisily forth from a primordial swamp.

Messrs opens the show.
